Portland is my location. I’ve continued walk as often as possible through the pandemic and riots, pardon me, “mostly peaceful demonstrations,” here in Portland. I witnessed the standoff at the Federal Building, but only during daylight hours. During one walk I started asking the same simple question repeatedly to strangers, from about a mile out, to within two blocks of the Federal Building: “Had enough of Ted Wheeler yet?” The question got guffaws on the west side, but within four blocks of the Building it was mostly ignored and those asked averted their gaze. The midmorning occupiers of the park across the street were easily recognized as almost entirely the down-and-outer types, several obviously not taking medications I’m sure had been recommended for them.
