A couple weeks ago I went camping with a friend who is very independent-minded, yet also susceptible to getting caught up in movements. She has attended most every Portland protest from the beginning, but usually goes home before dark for safety.
Here are some things she shared from her perspective:
1. There are racist White Nationalists everywhere in these protests that bring violence to what otherwise is a peaceful demonstration. I didn't ask and I wish I did, but I get the impression that she believes all Trump supporters are racists. I almost triggered her when she saw my red Peru hat before she realized it wasn't a Trump hat.
2. Police use excessive force particularly when taking back streets in "Bull Rushes". She described people getting shoved over repeatedly, and how mace canisters are extensively used. There was a tangent discussion about how Geneva rules forbid use of this gas in war, and said something about it causing spontaneous abortion. She ...
