Would someone explain to a non-American exactly why:-
1) Appointments to the Supreme Court are such a big issue
2) Why members of the Supreme Court are "conservative" or "liberal" - why are they allowed to have political affiliations at all? It would surely be better if SCOTUS appointees were fully independent?

We have a "Supreme Court" in the UK; but it is largely an appellant court and is subject to the authority of Parliament. Unfortunately, it was created by a corrupt socialist government in the 2000's and is seen as a little too activist; and there have been calls to abolish it. However the appointees are not selected based upon political leanings

This is why God gave us sunsets. To say good bye to a troubled day. God gave us sunrises to welcome a new day filled with hope. Hugs to everyone. I am always thinking of you all 🌻
