Reading The Madness of Crowds and just have to share a thought on the pressure for companies to make sure that they're paying "oppressed" people enough money, prioritizing promoting woman and People of Color, etc., and it makes me think of an example of the damage that does.

Les ran a residential rehab program for people who had drug and alcohol issues as well as severe mental health issues. The Treatment Specialist, Diane, was a very capable young white woman. When our team went in for the annual internal agency audit, the program's books were in amazing shape. All of the clients' goals were clearly spelled out and their progress meticulously tracked. If they were not making the intended progress, discussions of how to approach the goal more effectively were clearly documented, new approaches clearly documented, and the progress clearly documented. It was obvious that Denise was doing an exemplary job. Then she quit and Roxie asked for her job. Les pointed out that the job required...
