If there is one issue which should act as a unifying force in society, it is the destruction of the family and the problems which have occurred as a result.
As someone who spent much time working with youth in the inner city I can personally attest that kids who grew up in decent two parent homes on average ended up as successful as those in affluent areas. Conversely, I have seen many well off kids in broken homes go on to live highly destructive life styles. With boys often ending up either overly aggressive, or with a complete lack of assertiveness. Girls raised without fathers often seem to crave male validation without the ability to distinguish who should be considered as an acceptable partner. These traits have been seen by many and they are reflected not only in the data but deeply engrained in public consciousness in film, music and literature.
