There is a major distinction between what happened at the Boston Tea Party and looting. At the Boston Tea Party the Sons of Liberty threw the tea into Boston Harbor: they did not take it home. A clear point was made to limit destruction -- nothing on the ships was damaged, they cleaned up the mess aftweward, and even replaced a padlock that had to be broken to gain acesss to the tea. There was no financial gain: no one, not even the participants and organizers, was allowed to drink or sell the tea.
