I just sent this letter to Gunowners Of America.
We are all watching the nationwide attack on the legitimate and illegitimate uses of force by our law enforcement officers and deputies. The left has found an issue that resonates and will of course exploit it to the fullest extent possible. We are already seeing huge changes in department policies, the law and the very nature of policing and use of force in America.
It occurs to me that the legal use of force by law-abiding gun owners will be the next target. This seems inevitable. You and other organizations like you are our primary line of defense against such attacks on our inalienable right to self defense.
You need to be preparing for this onslaught; developing strategies to counter not only legal challenges and pressure on politicians to change our laws in this regard, but also to fight the public relations battle.
Social media will be one of the critical battlegrounds. That is one arena where gun rights organizations have been pretty much absent. This concerns me greatly. We need to up our game in this arena or all the great progress made could be lost overnight, as we have seen with law enforcement.
I hope you will take this into consideration and act immediately. We cannot assume that we have a lot of time to do this. The next controversial shooting by a CHL holder could be the trigger for an all out assault in the media, on social media, in our legislatures and in our courts.
Being ready for this is not enough. You must be proactive and lay the groundwork before such an event occurs. Please begin planning for this dire threat to our rights now. We members of GoA and gun owners across America are depending upon you. Start a campaign to thwart this and tell us what we can do to help. Again, there is no time so start now.
