In reference to the attached article, Congressman Gaetz recently commented on the desire to reduce the use of animal testing. The article he referenced was discussed drug testing on dogs, but there are other types of animal testing that could be reduced.

I worked for a medical device company for nineteen years and coordinated many tests for biocompatibility. The most common set of three tests are performed on almost any device that will be in contact with a patient’s skin for any significant amount of time. Some of the required tests involve using animals to determine whether there is a potential for an allergic skin reaction to develop in the patient. While I don’t disagree necessarily with requiring this testing, there is an opportunity to reduce the total amount of testing.

If multiple companies use a material, for example, each company will pay for the same set of tests. This is great if you own an animal testing lab but can be extremely redundant and therefore wasteful....
