Just feeling a little inspired today by a character in one of my all time fav movies, Dances With Wolves. No, not Kostner's character, but Mary McConnell's.
When the character, John Dunbar asks what her name is, she tells him Napépheča Nážiŋ Wiŋ, and to demonstrate the name's meaning she stands to her feet and gestures to him the act of rising. Then she pounds her fist into her hand to demonstrate that there is a combatitive intent in her standing. Her translated name is Stands With A Fist. Later, she tells Dunbar that she only needed to be truly combatitive once, and then nobody troubled her again.
Let's set aside for a moment the intent to do violence, although I deeply appreciate the sentiment of Malcom X when he said, "Concerning nonviolence, it is criminal to teach a man not to defend himself when he is the constant victim of brutal attacks”; there is a deep need for us to take on the personae of this movie character in the face of forces that will decidedly be trying...
Went to an illegal backyard dinner last night. Illegal fun (including tequila) was had by consenting adults. Please don’t report us.
No live show today as I wanted to give my guys a four day weekend with MLK Day on Monday.
Anyone got good weekend plans?
