A bit of uplifting news for you on this lovely Saturday evening.
To me, this is the true fruit of the American "melting pot" experiment. As she says, this is appreciation, not "appropriation." Lots of people who throw that term around have no idea what they're talking about.
This is what America was all about not that long ago, and a reminder that we could be there again if we really wanted to.
This is what happens when a country focuses on celebrating differences and engaging with each other's cultures, and not turning every such interaction into some perverse power struggle. This what happens when we're more concerned with what unites us than the trivial things divide us. This is the real America: a black girl in Virginia not caring about skin color (because she shouldn't), pursuing something she is passionate about, and then being so good at traditional Celtic dancing that she's invited on a program in Ireland, and finally asked to dance with the number one Irish dance troupe in the world when they come tour in the states. You're damn right that's what America represents. It's absolutely beautiful- and worth fighting for.
Absolutely incredible. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
